Nicola Yankov

Managing Partner and Chairman of the Board of Directors

Nicola Yankov has held senior management positions in large corporations such as Naftex, Solvay and Kraft. He also has senior government experience as a former Deputy Minister of Economy, and Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications. Nicola has a BSc degree in Consumer Economics from Cornell University in the US.

Nicola Yankov has held a number of senior management positions in large companies – he was Member of the Supervisory Board of Lukoil Neftochim AD (the largest oil refinery in South-East Europe), Chief Executive Officer at Naftex Petrol AD (the biggest wholesaler of fuel products and part of the Naftex company group), Finance Director at Solvay Sodi AD (part of the Solvay Group), Treasury Manager at Kraft Jacobs Suchard Bulgaria. He was a member of the Board of Hild Asset – the biggest life annuity business in Central and Eastern Europe.

Between 2003 and 2005, Nicola Yankov served as Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, where he was responsible for management oversight and business planning in the government-controlled business entities in the sector, as well as for promoting private investment in public infrastructure such as ports and airports. Concurrently, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Port Authority and a Member of the Council for Economic Policy and the Council for Economic Growth under the Council of Ministers. Prior to that, Mr. Yankov served as Deputy Minister of Economy (2001-2003), where he was responsible for industrial sector development and regulation and was also Chairman of the Temporary Protection Tariffs and Quotas Committee.

Nicola Yankov has a BSc degree in Consumer Economics from Cornell University in the United States (1994). He speaks English, Russian, and French. Nicola Yankov is а member of the Board of the Bulgarian Investment Managers Association.

Nikolay Vassilev, CFA

Managing Partner and Executive Director

Nikolay Vassilev was a minister in two governments (2001-2009). Previously, he worked at the investment banks UBS (UBS Warburg Dillon Read) and Lazard Capital Markets in Tokyo, New York, and London. Nikolay studied at prestigious universities in Hungary, the US, and Japan. He is a CFA charterholder.

Nikolay Vassilev was a member of two governments of the Republic of Bulgaria, serving as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy (2001-2003), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications (2003-2005), and Minister of State Administration and Administrative Reform (2005-2009).

Previously, Nikolay Vassilev was Senior Vice President at Lazard Capital Markets – London (2000-2001), and Associate Director at UBS (UBS Warburg Dillon Read) in the Tokyo, New York, and London offices (1996-2000), working in the area of equities and emerging markets. He was also a tax adviser at Coopers & Lybrand in Budapest, Hungary (1993-1994).

Nikolay Vassilev holds a Master of Arts degree in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University, USA (1997) with an exchange program at Keio University (Tokyo, Japan), as well as two Bachelor's degrees from the State University of New York, USA (1995) and the Budapest University of Economic Sciences, Hungary (1994), and has been a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder since 1999. He speaks English, Hungarian, and Russian and has basic knowledge of French, German, and Japanese.

Currently, Nikolay Vassilev is a member of the Board of the Bulgarian CFA Association.

He is the author of three books – “Energy” (2009), “Menu for Reformers” (2014), and “Career or Not” (2018).

Lachezar Dimov, CFA

Chief Investment Officer and Member of the Board of Expat Asset Management

Prior to Expat Lachezar Dimov worked as a Portfolio Manager at TBI Asset Management and was responsible for managing the fixed income portfolio of the largest pension fund in Bulgaria. One of the steps in his professional experience was working for AXA Investment Managers, Paris. He holds a Master's degree in Asset Management from the University of Dauphine, Paris, a Master's degree in Finance and Risk Management from Université Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg. Mr. Dimov is a CFA charterholder since 2013.

Prior to joining the Expat Capital team, Lachezar worked as a Portfolio Manager at TBI Asset Management, and was responsible for managing the fixed income portfolio of the fund Doverie, which is the largest pension fund in Bulgaria with over 1 billion euro in assets. His professional experience in finance started with an internship at the Bulgarian Development Bank. After that, he was Portfolio Manager Assistant at AXA Investment Managers, Paris. He worked as Portfolio Manager at TBI Asset Management (2010-2012), Head of Capital Markets Department at Municipal Bank (2012-2013), CEO and Board Member (2012), as well as Chief Operating Officer (2012-2013) at Municipal Bank Asset Management. Lachezar holds a Master's degree in Asset Management from the University of Dauphine, Paris, a Master's degree in Finance and Risk Management from Université Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, and a Bachelor's degree in Quantitative Methods, Economics and Management from Université Louis Pasteur. Lachezar has been a CFA charterholder since 2013. He speaks French, English and Russian.

Maria Boychinova, CFA

Head of Research and Member of the Board of Expat Asset Management

Prior to joining Expat, Maria Boychinova worked as a Research Analyst at the Norwegian financial services company Edge Capital. She holds a Bachelor's in Mathematics and Economics from Vassar College, NY. Mrs. Boychinova is a CFA charterholder since 2016.

Prior to joining the Expat Capital team, Maria Boychinova worked as a Research Analyst at the Norwegian financial services company Edge Capital (2009-2012) where she analyzed listed real estate companies in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria and issued investment recommendations for mutual funds and discretionary accounts. Her professional career in finance started at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in New York where she was an academic intern (2007). At JP Morgan in New York, she was a summer analyst in Equity Research and in Fixed Income Strategy (2007-2008). Maria Boychinova holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Economics from Vassar College, State of New York. In 2008, she participated in an exchange program at the London School of Economics, UK. Maria has been a CFA charterholder since 2016. She speaks English and German.

Nikola Veselinov

Head of Operations and Member of the Board of Expat Asset Managament

Nikola Veselinov joined the Expat team in 2011 as a Financial Analyst. He was promoted to Head of Operations for the entire asset management business in January 2016 and is currently responsible for managing the operational risks, strategic relationships, and business infrastructure in the firm. He holds a Master's degree in Finance and Credit Management from the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography.

Nikola Veselinov holds a Master's degree in Finance and Credit Management from the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography in Russia. In 2009, he interned with Allianz Bank Bulgaria, working in the area of corporate loans. In January 2011, Nikola joined the Expat Capital team as a Financial Analyst. In July 2014, he became a Senior Financial Analyst and was responsible for the three mutual funds of Expat Asset Management – Expat Emerging Markets Stocks, Expat Global Equities, and Expat Bonds, as well as for the private investment accounts. In January 2016, he was promoted to Head of Operations for the entire asset management business and is currently managing the operational risks, strategic relationships, and business infrastructure in the firm. He speaks Russian and English.

Natalia Todorova

Marketing & Investor Relations Manager

Natalia Todorova has extensive experience in the field of marketing, public relations, and communications – both in government and in the private sector. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, and two Master’s degrees – in Advertising and in Marketing.

Natalia Todorova joined Expat in August 2009 as Advertising and PR Manager. In 2012, she became Marketing and Investor Relations Manager, responsible for the communication with the Expat clients and the media. Previously, she worked as a Chief Expert at the PR and Protocol Department of the Ministry of State Administration and Administrative Reform of Bulgaria (2005-2009), and as a PR Expert at the Presscenter of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy (2004-2005). Natalia Todorova holds a Bachelor's degree in TV Journalism from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, a Master's degree in Advertising and Lifestyle from the New Bulgarian University, and a Master's degree in Marketing from the University of National and World Economy, Sofia. She is an author, producer and director of the short documentary movie “No Monitor”. She speaks English.

Marina Todorova

Head of Legal Affairs

Marina Todorova holds a Master's degree in Law from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. She is a member of the Sofia Bar Association. Previously, Marina worked as a Lawyer at Gruykin, Tanchovski, Velichkov Law Firm in Sofia.

Marina Todorova is a registered lawyer and a member of the Sofia Bar Association, and a domestic and international arbitrator. From 2005 till 2009, Marina Todorova worked as a Lawyer at “Gruykin, Tanchovski, Velichkov” Law Firm in Sofia. She has a Master's degree in Law from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. In 2004, Marina attended a training course in Conduct of cases before the European Court in Strasbourg. In the same year, she completed her government legal experience as a trainee lawyer at the Ministry of Justice. She speaks English and Russian.

Vanya Nikova, FCCA

CFO

Prior to joining Expat, Vanya worked at KPMG Bulgaria where her last position was Senior Manager in the Tax and Bookkeeping Outsourcing Department. Vanya holds a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Sofia University ‘St. Kliment Ohridski’. She is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK.

From 2012 to March 2018, Vanya worked in the Tax and Bookkeeping Outsourcing Department of KPMG where she managed projects for provision of tax compliance, bookkeeping and reporting services to companies from various industries. In addition, Vanya was responsible for leading internal projects related to optimization of the service delivery process, she participated in business development and was also a performance manager for assigned team members.

From 2005 to 2011, Vanya was part of the Advisory team of KPMG where she was involved in various projects related to the finance function like quality close, management reporting tools design, conversion to IFRS, assistance with SOX 404 implementation and reviews of specific business processes, internal and information system controls. From 2001 to 2004, Vanya worked at TMF Services Ltd. providing payroll and accounting services to clients.

Vanya holds a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Sofia University ‘St. Kliment Ohridski’. Since 2007, she is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK. In 2012, Vanya was awarded with a FCCA status (Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).

Tatyana Lazarova

Head of Accounting

Prior to joining the Expat team, Tatyana Lazarova was Deputy Chief Accountant at DV Asset Management. She has substantial experience in the field of accounting working at asset management companies, investment intermediaries, REIT. She holds a Master’s degree in Finance from the University of National and World Economy, Sofia.

Prior to joining the Expat team, from 2010 to 2018, Tatyana Lazarova was Deputy Chief Accountant at DV Asset Management. Before that, from 2009 to 2010, she was Operational Accountant at the same company. Her professional experience includes working as Chief Accountant at Exclusive Property REIT (2007-2009) and DSK Asset Management (2005-2007). Between 2001 and 2005, she held the position of Financial Manager at the investment intermediary Bora Invest. Prior to that, she was Manager at Again Invest.

Tatyana holds a Master's degree in Finance from the University of National and World Economy, Sofia. She speaks Russian and English.

Konstantina Pergelova

Manager Back Office

Konstantina Pergelova joined Expat in 2016. Her professional experience includes working for various companies in the financial sector among which Sociètè Generale Expressbankand DSK Rodina Pension Assurance Company. She has a BSc in Finance and an MSc in International Relations.

Prior to joining Expat, Konstantina Pergelova worked as Manager Institutional Clients at Societe Generale Expressbank. Her previous experience includes working as Head of Back Office and Asset Investment Procedures at DSK Rodina Pension Assurance Company, and as a Back Office Expert at Standard Asset Management. Konstantina Pergelov has a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from “Dimitar Tsenov” Academy of Economics, Svishtov, and a Master’s degree in International Relations form the University of National and World Economy, Sofia. She speaks German, English and Russian.

Evgenia Simeonova

Head of Internal Control and Compliance

Evgenia Simeonova joined the Expat team in 2008. She has substantial experience as a Business Coordinator and Economic analyst working at large international companies, among which ExxonMobil and Amtest. She holds a Master's degree in International Economic Relations from the University of National and World Economy in Sofia.

Zhasmina Ivanova

Portfolio Manager

Zhasmina Ivanova has an MBA from Yonsei University, South Korea, and a Bachelor's degree in Finance from the UNWE, with an exchange program in Poznan School of Banking, Poland. She interned at Societe Generale and at Toshev Accounting Firm in Bulgaria, as well as at the EAAFP Secretariat in Korea.

Zhasmina Ivanova is an MBA graduate from Yonsei University, Korea. She also holds a Bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of National and World Economy, with an exchange program in Poznan School of Banking, Poland. She interned at Sociètè Generale and at Toshev Accounting Firm in Bulgaria, as well as at the EAAFP Secretariat in Korea where she was responsible for the organization of the Asian Regional Workshop on the Management of Wetlands and East Asian – Australasian Flyway Sites. Zhasmina started her career at Expat in 2014 as a Financial Analyst covering global equities and fixed-income instruments. She is a CFA candidate, passed Level 1 in 2016. She speaks English and German.

Teodora Dimitrova

Senior Back Office Expert

Teodora Dimitrova holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics. As a back office expert, her responsibilities include administration of securities transactions and communication with Expat’s counterparties on the technical execution and booking of purchases and sales of financial instruments.

Teodora Dimitrova holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and is currently completing her Master's degree in Financial Management at the New Bulgarian University. She participated in an internship program at the United Bulgarian Bank where her responsibilities were in the area of lending to large corporate clients. In 2014, Teodora had an internship at a large Bulgarian accounting firm, after which she joined the Expat team. Her responsibilities include communication with Expat’s counterparties on the technical execution and booking of securities transactions. Teodora is responsible for the administration of Expat’s UCITS funds. She speaks English.

Mariya Atanasova

Back Office Expert

Prior to joining the Expat Team Mariya Atanasova had held different positions in investment intermediaries in Bulgaria and had accumulated years of experience in the field capital markets, incl. administration of securities transactions and internal control.

Simeon Todorov

Securities Trader

Simeon Todorov has interned at Expat Asset Management, Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Bulgaria, Bulgarian Stock Exchange – Sofia and Cornerstone Global Partners, Hong Kong. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, and has been on an exchange program at the University of Hong Kong.

Simeon Todorov was intern at Expat Asset Management during the summer of 2015. Since then and prior to joining Expat’s team, he interned at the Macroeconomic analyses and forecasts division at the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Bulgaria, Bulgarian Stock Exchange – Sofia and Cornerstone Global Partners, Hong Kong. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Finance from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom in July 2017. As part of his degree Simeon spent time abroad on an exchange program at the University of Hong Kong. Simeon is a CFA candidate, passed Level 1 in 2018. He speaks English and German.

Dilyana Todorova

Securities Trader

Dilayana was an intern at Expat Asset Management, as well as at the Finance and Budgeting Department of the Bulgarian Parliament. She has a Management and Finance undergraduate degree from the University of Westminster, London. In 2016, she got an offer from King’s College London for a Banking and Finance masters course (expected graduation in 2018).

Prior to joining the Expat team, Dilyana was an intern at the Finance and Budgeting Department of the Bulgarian Parliament and had also worked for an IT company where she acquired professional knowledge on working with Linux Ubuntu. In 2016, Dilyana took part in Expat's internship program working in close cooperation with the securities trading team. While completing her Management and Finance undergraduate degree at the University of Westminster in London, she attended a Bloomberg terminal course, too. Dilyana holds membership at several financial analysis student societies, as well as at the Millennium Club Bulgaria. In 2016, she got an offer from King’s College London for a Banking and Finance masters course (expected graduation in 2018). She speaks English, with the right to teach it, French, and basic Spanish. Dilyana has also been a volunteer at the Bulgarian Red Cross since 2007.

Tsvetelina Dimitrova

Executive Assistant

Tsvetelina Dimitrova holds a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from the University of National and World Economy, Sofia. Prior to joining the Expat Capital team, Tsvetelina was an intern at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Consular Relations.

Her responsibilities included carrying out diplomatic and legal protection of the rights of Bulgarian citizens and diplomats abroad. During 2014, she was a teaching assistant in International Relations, focusing on the Balkan Region. Her responsibilities included giving lectures and to organizing political conferences and debates. Tsvetelina speaks English and Spanish.

Internship Program

Expat Capital has a policy of supporting and training young professionals and college students. Each year, the company accepts a limited number of interns (guests of the company) from various academic fields and universities around the world. For a period of one to several months, the interns gain knowledge and practical experience in corporate finance, capital markets, and investment management.
